The Hulk vs Spider-Man diorama was released in 2006 and is considered, by many fans, the real king of the historical Marvel dioramas produced by Sideshow, both for the undeniable charisma of the characters (two real pillars of the Marvel Universe) and the overall sculptural quality of the whole figure. The statue is imposing: its size is about 43 x 25 cm, with a height of 36 cm and a weight of almost 12 kg, even more than the mammoth X-Mes vs Sentinel No.1, which it competes with for rarity and quotations on the collectibles' market. Sculpted by Martin Canale, the statue has an edition sizen of 750 pieces for the regular version and 500 for the exclusive, characterized by the possibility to turn on the red light of the traffic signal which the agile figure of Spider-Man is located on. Indeed, Sideshow released a further version where Hulk is painted in its original gray color: a true rarity, very difficult to come by and see live, both for the very limited run (only 50 pieces worldwide!) and the consequent crazy prices. The diorama depicts an Hulk nothing short of enraged, bent in the act to uproot a huge block of concrete and visually pointing the opponent, shouting at him his uncontrollable fury. Spider-Man exhibits a very dynamic pose: resting on his hand over the ruins of a traffic light (deformed by the brutal force of the Green Goliath), he wisely holds the anger of the enemy off by flexing his legs to the maximum and preparing to jump as far away as possible! The colossal figure of Hulk dominates the scene and conveys a sense of incredible power: the arms and legs are deliberately oversized with respect to the head and everywhere the huge muscles (especially the triceps) are emphasized by both a masterful sculpt and perfect shades of color. Many bulging veins appear on the arms, hands and the bull neck, here pointed out by the particular pose, and the head, completely turned towards the opponent. The grip on the cement block shows a breathtaking realism: the giant's fingers pierce into the concrete as if it were butter and give a clear idea of the brutal force which the poor Spidey has to deal with. The contrast of the gray torn clothes (on arms and back) with green skin is great, as well as the details on purple jeans, ripped and pulled to perfection by the bulge of the impressive quadriceps. Note the realism of the folds of the right foot, bent on the ground, or also of the elbow of the right arm, which, here and there, even exhibits some evident traces of the skin porosity, thus confirming the above average sculpt quality and the incredible attention paid to details. The face of Hulk is realized flawlessly and is incredibly expressive: a jaw with a disproportionate size depicts the furios scream of the giant, while the menacing look is stressed by a more open left eye, the raised cheekbone and very tense facial muscles. Compared to Hulk, the figure of Spider-Man, is tiny, but it strikes for its astonishing dynamism and the perfect painting. The physique is lean, powerful and extremely elegant: the feet are perfectly hanging in the air with the legs bent toward the chest and the left arm stretched backward, to give the right balance to body, in a really athletic pose. Note the delicate fingers of the left hand and the overall top-level coloring: in spite of the small size, the classical spider costume is drawn with great care and every line of demarcation of muscles (on chest, legs and back) is pointed out by effective shades of color. Also the base is very nice, with the tarmac completely deformed by the massive weight of Hulk, a number of twisted rods protruding from the concrete block and the realistic traffic light acting as a substantial support to the figure of Parker. In my opinion, this statue represents the top of the line among the Marvel dioramas produced by Sideshow: aesthetically speaking, it can be only compared to the admirable fight between Wolverine and Sabretooth, but it is even more valuable and impressive in size: a true classic, timeless and unrivaled collectible!
